Three Miles a Day

I'm back on the wagon!  Ok, that's a bad way to put it....I'm making a lifestyle change...again?  Ugh.  No matter how I word it I can't escape the pure fact that I've given up losing weight and getting healthy more times than I can count.  I'm frustrated with my cycle and I want to keep it up this time.

I don't read a ton of blogs, but one that I enjoy is Babe before Baby and in this recent post she wrote about her weekly goal and then asked what ours was for the week.  I could have listed a multitude of different goals...all of which I'm really trying to accomplish.  But, since I didn't want to give a three page essay in her comments box, I chose the one that is making me feel the best so far.  The goal is to walk at least three miles every day.

Three miles might not seem like much, but there are a couple of factors.  A.) I have a back injury that I don't want to aggravate by over doing it.  B.) I'm walking with a small dog and don't want to over do it for him!  I'm also splitting the miles up into one mile jaunts to keep the impact down even more.  I have read a couple of places that it doesn't matter when you get your work out in, as long as you get it done within the day.

I've been working on the daily walking for about five days now, but it has only been the last couple of days that I've gotten the three miles in.  I'm not going to kill myself to get them in though, if we are gone for the day I'm not going to stuff three miles in at midnight and I'm going to listen to my body.  I know the difference in ache and in pain, so if I feel pain I'll stop.

But I have to start somewhere.  I gained seven pounds while I was on vacation and I am NOT pleased about that.  Granted, I lost it all almost as soon as I got home, but still.  No.  Thank.  You!

So...here's to my weekly goal!

On a Pony Mission

A few weeks ago my friend Ali told me that she had plans to dress up as a humanized version of a My Little Pony for the Toronto Fan Expo this August when she comes up to visit me.  Now I've been to Fan Expo for the last two years and I honestly don't remember seeing anyone dress up as My Little Ponies, but because of her comment I decided to Google My Little Pony cosplay and boy oh boy did I get an eye full!  Apparently this is quite the thing and lots of people are positively crazy about ponies!

I decided (being the good friend that I am) that I would also dress up as a MLP!  But this required me to do a little research and I've been on a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic marathon ever since then!  I can see why little girls would love this cartoon and it teaches a lot of really good lessons about friendship.  Anyway, I can also see why it would be interesting to cosplay as a my little pony also.

Some people take the cosplay of my little ponies to a full on pony dimension and furry costumes are their cosplay choice.  Others take a strictly human version of the pony and just dress up in the specific color scheme of the pony but have zero pony features.  I think Ali and I are going to do a little half and half to be honest.  I'm leaning towards either dressing up as Rarity or Fluttershy considering I love the color scheme of Rarity but the attitude of Fluttershy and I know Ali is going to dress up as Twilight Sparkle.  We've found some really fun unicorn horn and ear sets on Etsy like this set here as well as a few other accessories that I think will be great!

What I'm probably most excited about is that if I cosplay as Rarity then I get to wear my wedding dress again!!  Hahaha!  My dress is a really fun, short white on white polka dot halter dress and I think it will be perfect for Rarity!  Pair it up with a frilly purple petticoat and I'm good to go!

I can't help but still feel a little silly knowing that this is my Fan Expo costume for this year, but I don't know how more silly dressing up as a My Little Pony is considering last year I dressed up as a Sith and carried around a lightsaber.  I guess its all a bit silly...but as long as your having fun who cares!

I'll post photo's as I start building on the costume!

The Documentation of the Domestic Nerd

Today is the start of the documentation of the domestic nerd, aka: Me!  So much has happened over the last two years since I got married.  Not only did I move from Kansas to Canada, but I've been living in Toronto for almost a year now.  Without question, Toronto is a vastly different environment than my small Kansas hometown was, but I'm loving it so far.

I never considered myself a nerd prior to deciding to marry my husband; however, I must have had some nerdy pockets somewhere considering how comfortable I am in the role of a nerdy housewife.  One might say I took to geekdom like a duck to water!  Harry Potter, Starwars, Cosplay, LARP, Firefly, and D&D....are just a few of the things I find myself enjoying now days.  On top of my nerdy adventures, I've also been expanding my domestic abilities (much to my husbands delight) and have tested my sewing and canning skills most recently!

I'm excited to start journaling about husband & wife adventures, nerdy excursions, attempts at domesticity, my obsession with Artoo our Coton de Tulear puppy, and anything else that strikes my fancy.
